Inspiring People

It can sometimes get hard keeping up with everything in this fast paced world. I sometimes feel all I’m thinking about is the next job that I need to get done. Then when I sit down and relax, I realise that you need to make time to enjoy, be creative, be inspired to do your best work, and more to the point, love your job.

I’ve been sick the last few days so I have been brainstorming new ideas and tidying up the ridiculous number of image files on my computer. I came across a few film shots I have taken over this last winter and a couple of other snaps of friends I spent some good times with. They reminded me of what we do and brought back some memories.

Bugsy(or Ben Ryan) – as you can see it’s absolutely dumping in this image, I took this shot when we were in Tahoe working on the MadeYouLook project. We were in these conditions constantly. We were probably standing out there for most of the day to get one still or a few four second clips for the movie, so if you don’t love your job you just don’t last.

Kristian Phillips – I was in Reno attending the Ultimate Boarder contest at a big casino. It was an amazing night. There was a big indoor skate contest, then a Penny Wise concert and we had three motel rooms. I took this shot of Kristian after he had just won around 10,000 USD for getting second in the world for the second year in a row. There was lots of media and kids trying to get his signature when I managed to snap this one off in the crowd. It popped up on some film a few months later.

RMB – he is well known in the NZ/AUS snowboarding industry and has been in the game for a long time. We have done a lot a shooting and travelling together over the last three years. I snapped this shot of him while he was watching Nick Gregory catching some NZ swell.

Ferrett- always a good time with Fezzl. I actually just snapped these off last week. I spent some time shooting with the Huffer team. Ferrett always has his beats pumping, pacing around the house looking like he is thinking up a new master plan for something. Looks like he is putting it on paper finally Haha.

Rob – I took this shot when me and Rob lived in Truckee, CA earlier this year. We were taking a skating pic just around the corner from where we lived when this guy pulled up and started telling us about how he used to get roller skate wheels back in the day and put them on a plank of wood and boom hills. Rob was stoked to met him. It’s quite cool how people can live in completely different worlds but still relate.

I have also spent some time with the Huffer team over the last week. They have been over here doing the Huffer House of Horrors. We spent a lot of time up at Snow Park but also had a few good opportunities to shoot some things that we wouldn’t usually shoot.

It’s quite a nice spot up at Snow Park as the sun goes down. I can’t put any bangers up but here is a shot of the last jump late arvo.

We spent a day getting towed behind Audis up at the vehicle testing station. The crew had a lot of fun getting towed around and they gave us some groomer time to push up a few jumps. It’s crazy how fast they get them going on the snow. Quite a thrill.

Kristian is also on Huffer and was over here with the crew. We got a few good shots in a bowl which I can’t post but here is Kristian warming up the hand plant. He didn’t quite get it before he had to catch a plane back to Aus. Maybe next time we’ll get the banger of that one.
