When I Was Young When I was young we travelled up to my grandparents’ house every Christmas. They lived on a beef farm near Kerikeri in Northland. I was free to roam over the countryside and in the kauri forest, while my family were occupied at the farmhouse. There weren’t many other kids around and my young mind soon wandered into a fictional world of a land that had no humans, but giant prehistoric creatures that wandered through the forest in front of me and into the lakes and fields beyond. This series of images is an attempt to recreate my childhood experience as I wandered though the kauri forest of Northland, New Zealand.
